The Sound Machine

Klausner looses all his marbles in this short story. Developing a brilliant theory he goes mad with the possibility it might actually be true, but why does he call the doctor? I understand he was the only one that knew about this machine, but what is the doctor going to do? What was the doctor going to do Klausner couldn't do? Also, how could they let this marvelous machine get destroyed? The sound machine could of been life changing for everybody. Do we cut down trees and cut roses for our own benefit if we know they actually are alive and scream when they're cut down? The doctor was the closes and he just ran, Klausner was too worried about the tree's feelings to even move. How do you not attempt to save something like that?
